Michael D'Errico - Partner and Biologist

Michael D’Errico is a Partner and Biologist for WEST with 14 years of experience in the San Luis Valley, CO.  He has 8 years of wetland management, waterbird and vegetation monitoring experience, as well as participating in the planning and development of wetland restoration efforts with Ducks Unlimited and the Colorado Division of Wildlife.  As well he has worked for the USFWS and various other agencies managing and mapping vegetation communities, infrastructure, and water resources.  

He completed his Master’s Degree at the University of Misssouri-Columbia in Fisheries and Wildlife with an emphasis in wetlands.  Specifically, his research centered on waterbird use of public and private lands under various management strategies in the San Luis Valley.  Michael has been involved in a variety of local and regional work groups that include the Middle Upper Rio Grande Ecoteam, Ducks Unlimited, San Luis Valley Wetlands Focus Area Committee, and the Wetland Managers Working Group.  Furthermore, he has helped administer and participated in many workshops and conferences including the Ducks Unlimited Colorado State Convention, San Luis Valley Waterfowl Ecology Workshop, and a variety of Wetland Reviews.

Cary Aloia - Partner and Biologist

Cary Aloia is a Partner and Biologist for WEST with 10 years of experience in the San Luis Valley, CO.  She has 7 years of wetland management, waterbird, and vegetation monitoring experience.  Through her work with WEST she has performed a wide variety of duties associated with running a wetland consulting business such as writing and administering grants and keeping the financial books.  As a biologist she has developed databases and monitoring protocols, collected and analyzed data, prepared and implemented management plans, and has helped construct wetland enhancement projects such as installing new water control structures.

She has worked throughout Colorado performing wetland site assessments and monitoring on Colorado Wetland Program sites.  Through this work she was responsible for field data collection, data entry, data analysis, report writing, and evaluation of field methods for the program.  In this capacity she has worked with state, federal, and non-profit agencies.  

She completed her Master’s Degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia in Fisheries and Wildlife with an emphasis in wetlands.  Her research centered on the response of an exotic weed to varying management strategies and abiotic conditions throughout the Upper and Middle Rio Grande Valleys and the Green River Valley.  

Cary
has been involved in many local and regional working groups including the Middle Upper Rio Grande Ecoteam, San Luis Valley Wetlands Focus Area Committee, and the San Luis Valley Wetland Managers Working Group.  As well, she has helped administer and participated in many workshops and conferences including the Western Wetlands Conference, Association of State Wetland Managers, and a variety of Wetland Reviews.
